Long-term ponding and the occurrence of reduction condition finally result in aquic soil moisture regime or aquic soil condition, which affects soil quality, plant growth, and living conditions for other soil organisms. Soil morphological and chemical properties, especially type and quantity of different forms of iron and manganese, are strongly related to soil drainage conditions. The study area with about 10 ha extent was located in Rice Research Station, west of Tonekabon County in Mazandaran province. Endosaturation and anthric saturation of paddy soil surface had caused the development of special chemical and morphological forms of Fe and Mn. For the purpose of this study, Eh, different forms of iron such as soluble, crystalline, amorphous, and total iron and mineralogy of the redoximorphic features were studied in 5 pedons. High concentration of soluble Mn showed a close relationship with soil organic matter (SOM) and pH: its higher amounts were recorded in surface horizons with higher organic matter, decreasing by depth, however increases with pH declined with depth in some pedons. Results showed that SOM, aquic condition, pH, and lithlogical discontinuities played important roles in vertical distribution of Feo and Fed. Comparison of EDS elemental analyses data confirmed the presence of appreciable Fe in soils under kiwi cultivation. Mineralogical composition of redoximorphic features showed that lepidochrosite was the dominant form of Fe in both reduced paddy and non-paddy soils.
